We are dedicated to investigating a wide array of topics in human auditory perception and cognition. Our research addresses the processing of music and language, as well as general auditory perceptual mechanisms. Topics of interest include the communication of emotion through speech and music, the use of music for emotional regulation, the use of music in therapeutic interventions, the influence of acculturation on musical behaviors and perception, the influence of the auditory environment on attention, and the evolution of music.

We are not only a research lab; we are a teaching lab, as are all labs at Purchase College. Undergraduates in the lab conduct independent research projects under the guidance of Dr. Meagan Curtis. Students in the Psychology Program at Purchase College often present at professional conferences and co-author research publications. Graduates of our program often go on to earn a Ph.D. in psychology.
